Borage GRAS Status
Bioriginal is the first company in the world to attain GRAS status on its borage oil. GRAS status, or “generally recognized as safe”, means that Bioriginal’s borage oil has proven to be efficacious based on a long history of safety and scientific research. Our borage oil continues to be manufactured to Canadian Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and is now considered a food ingredient approved for use in more applications such as functional food and beverage products, as well as condition-specific applications like diabetic, heart health, and skin products.
The Bioriginal Advantage
Our vertical integration, strategic alliances, rigorous quality control and geographic location all contribute to our ability to guarantee a continuous supply of the cleanest, purest product on the market today. All our oils are independently tested to ensure that products are free from pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, and PCBs. Our seed oils are expeller pressed without hexane or other harsh chemicals. Bioriginal was one of the first companies in Canada to receive a site license from the Natural Health Products Directorate certifying Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) compliance. In addition to this certification, Bioriginal will continue to manufacture in compliance with the more stringent pharmaceutical-level GMP and WHO (World Health Organization) Codex standards for edible oil safety.
Built on Science
Outstanding research is the foundation of Bioriginal’s processing operations. Bioriginal’s team of scientists is closely linked to the University of Saskatchewan, the only campus in Canada offering all five health sciences. Bioriginal’s scientists also have close ties with Innovation Place, a leading research centre for agricultural biotechnology; Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada; the National Research Council / Plant Biotechnology Institute; the Saskatchewan Research Council; and the Protein and Starch Pilot Plant.
